Monday's Model 14x11

"Monday's Model" -I did not get the model's name. I wish I had because she was a great model. She was able to hold the pose very well and was able to get back into the same position each time after the break which is very much appreciated by all artists painting her. Anyway, I was kind of happy with the result. I am really learning a lot by doing the portrait commissions that I am currently spending lots of time on.

"Starting Over"

"Starting Over" 14x11

This painting was today's demo for my class. The name has a couple of meanings. Firstly, I wiped off the first drawing because the composition was off, so I "started over". But this is also a poinsettia painting and since this is the Christmas Season, it's also a chance to "start over". What would we do without the Christ-mas season? Knowing Christ has allowed many folks to start over, to make a new beginning. It's through faith in Jesus Christ that allow us to know who we are, where we are going and where we come from. At the risk of sounding like a Hallmark card (which is what my son told me), my faith is about peace for today and hope for tomorrow. Thanks Jesus!
Have a blessed holiday season!

"Spring in Columbus"

This painting is a plein air painting painted this spring in Columbus Texas. It was a beautiful day. I had gone out to visit a friend's farm. She wasn't able to make it so I found a place beside the road where I felt safe and painted this study.

"Tea and Carnations"

"Tea and Carnations" 10x12 oil on linen panel

This is a little study that I did as a demonstration for a workshop I did in the spring in Fredericksburg. It's loose because I did it in about an hour and I really just tried to get the large shapes in without worrying about detail at all.

It's 4 am and I am having a hard time sleeping today. I am excited because tomorrow I pick up my son who has been away for about 18 months. It's going to be great having him home again. Thanks for looking at my work.

Here's a blessing for today-

"Ocean Breezes"

"Ocean Breezes" 6x8 oil on linen panel

I have had this little painting hanging in my home. It's Houma, La. before hurricane Katrina. Several of my dear friends and I went there for a week to paint a while ago. This was my attempt at Monet's Impressionism. I like this little painting. I am ready to sell it though.

Looking for Peter Rabbit

Painted on a very rainy day in the Lake District, England, this 8x6 painting is typical of the many gardens you see in England. The English love their gardens and for that, I loved being there as I also love flowers. It was rare to find a cottage or home that did not have some kind of color. I loved that. Even though many of the days were rainy which I understand is also very typical of the area, color was still abundant. Since this is where Beatrix Potter lived and worked much of her adult life, I thought this name was fitting.

White Horse Pub

Hi Everyone,

Well I am finally getting back into the studio after a long absence. I have been out of town a lot in the past 3 weeks. I went to England to paint for two weeks and then went to Dallas last week after my sister flew to Houston. We drove together to my brother's surprise b-day party. He was very surprised. It was a great time but because of all of that, I have been out of pocket a lot. Life is busy. But I have made it back to my studio and am beginning to evaluate my work from both the European trips that I have made this year. After completing a couple of commissions that I have in the works, I will be working on some larger paintings from the trips to France and England. I am excited just thinking about that. This particular study (6x8) was done on our first day of painting there. We were in Shere, in Surrey Shire, just south of London. We stayed at the Rookery Nook B and B. A really sweet couple own it and if you are ever in that part of England, I would recommend staying there. This pub, "The White Horse Pub" was the setting for the movie "The Holiday" starring Cameron Diaz. We had dinner there that evening also. Fun.

Spring Basket 10x8

Hi Everyone,

Well I am home from England and it was a great trip. Many many thanks to my friend Johnyne Rees and her sweet husband Tom for making this trip possible! We painted in the Cotswolds a week and then went to the Lake District. We spent one day photographing in Scotland so the trip was very productive and I will be posting some of those works later. Even though it rained many of the days we were there, we still were able to paint quite a bit. I had plans to put up one of the paintings I did today, however, I cannot put my hands on my camera cord to upload my photos. I know it's around here somewhere but until I find it, I will have to post some older paintings. Well, I had intended to post this one anyway, so here it is. Spring Basket is a very nice little painting that is in a french frame. I would like to sell the framed painting for just 350.00. That is a steal, so if you are interested just email me at judyacrowe@gmail.com or you can purchase safely and securely through paypal. Just follow the prompts.

Gettin Outta Dodge!!!

Okay, that's not the name of these paintings!! But I am gettin outta dodge (or Spring) today. I am leaving for Merry Ole England and won't be home until October 17 and so won't be posting most likely (unless I can find a friendly internet cafe) until October 20th or so. Please stay tuned to see some of the work that I do in the Cotswolds (where Beatrix Potter lived and where Thomas Kinkade loved to paint), the Lake District, and Scotland. I plan to drink one bottle of Scotland brew. Not a lot, just one. See you all soon. Blessings! Judy

True To Texas

Another plein air piece which was painted near my home in Spring, Texas. The buildings behind the hay bales are part of an old home-place that belonged to the Benfer Family. The Benfers are part of the German heritage around here-the first settlers in this part of Texas. I met Mr. Benfer before he sold this property to Faithbridge United Methodist Church. The buildings are still standing, at least for a while behind the church and you can drive back into the property and paint in a safe and very quiet atmosphere. I remember the day that I painted this. It was sunny but a bit windy and so I hid behind the church's bus which was nearby. Anyway, it was a good day and is a good representation of the way life used to be. Sometimes I think I was born too late! Thanks for visiting my blog!

Blessings for today-

"True to Texas" 11x14 oil on linen panel Please email me at judyacrowe@gmail.com if you are interested in this piece. It is framed in a very nice dark frame. This is a gallery piece. The price is $1145.00, framed.

Sunny Day in Provence

This painting was a plein air piece done in the streets of Gordes, Provence France during my recent trip. When I look at this painting, it reminds me of the great time we had. This painting was the day after the workshop and the students had gone home. Elaine, Johnyne and I went back to Gordes and we had some sun even though the wind was like a hurricane. No pun intended. Thank you for visiting!

Rodeo Days

Hi again. I am back. Well the last week and a half has been pretty eventful. I never realized how precious a commodity like ice is! Particularly when you can't get it!! Well our power is still off at our home after hurricane Ike but we were blessed in the long run because our neighbors just south of us were hit hard. We in north Houston were pretty lucky considering. We had a lot of trash in our yard, minor damage to the house, nothing serious. I finally have power at my studio now so I hope to get back to work soon. The bad thing is, (or good thing) I am leaving for Europe in one week, October 1-17 so won't be posting during that time either. But I will be putting new work up starting tomorrow until then.

Begonias 5x7

Friends, This will be my final post for at least a week, maybe longer. I live in Houston and we are still out of power as of September 18, Wednesday. We are okay though and blessed to not have been affected by the hurricane as much as our neighbors. Our prayers and thoughts are with our neighbors in Galveston, Treasure Island, Crystal Beach and Bolivar.

This little painting is a 5x7. The price is 100.00. If you are interested, please email me and I will be checking my messages online as much as I can. I am at the present time at my church powering my laptop.

This painting is sold! Thank you Sandy!

Country Meadow

"Country Meadow" 6x8 oil on panel

I did this little study last spring. I am wishing for those days right now as we are sitting here in Houston waiting for Hurricane Ike. I might be able to post something tomorrow. I just don't know yet. It's supposed to start raining manyana. If it gets bad then I won't be online. I spent an hour in line at Kroger today getting groceries and water. Yuk. I don't like hurricanes and plan to move. Yes, next year hopefully. I am not sure about anything right now except one. I am thankful that I have a faith in Jesus. Sorry if that offends anyone but it's true.

Anyway, this painting is going to sell for 100.00 plus 10.00 shipping. If anyone is interested, please email me and I'll save it for you. judyacrowe@gmail.com

Just Roses

A dear friend of mine brought these roses to a workshop that I was teaching in one of her mom's old depression glass vases. You know those green transparent kind they don't make anymore. I think our moms used to get these dishes inside soap boxes. It's a small painting, a 9x7 and even though it's very losely done, I've always liked it myself. This painting is about a year old. If I don't sell it, I'll just keep it.

Summer Color

Hi Students,

Here is the demo that I did last week. I finished it even though I have not felt well this week. Now I think I have a sinus infection. I am falling apart. I did do a daily painting today but will post it tomorrow if it doesn't stink! :)

Cheers!

Summer Reds

I started teaching my regular class again on Tuesday and haven't posted anything in a couple of days because I fell that day on my backside and hurt my neck! Ouch!! But, thanks to my dear sweet jewel of a friend Elaine Monnig who gave me a massage yesterday, I feel so much better. Anyway, I had purchased these beautiful gala apples for the class to paint and so decided to do a smaller version of the demonstration I did that day. I'll post it later. I love to paint apples because you can really get some sharp geometric shapes going if you decide what color each individual shape is. I love to paint these thickly to give them lots of substance. I picked this little red basket up at the goodwill store. They have lots of great goodies for really inexpensive prices.

Bluebonnets

Last spring my husband went to his parents "home place", a century home that has been in the family for over 100 years. He goes out there to mow, have some r & r from the stress of life, to just chill out. Sometimes I go with him. Riding a riding mower is strangely therapeutic. :) Sometimes I paint. Sometimes I mow. Sometimes I sit.
My husband came home with these bluebonnets. He always says, "I got you something from the gettin place". Well, he's from East Texas. It's sweet.

Summer Sun

"Summer Sun" 20x16 oil on canvas

I finished this painting yesterday and had a lot of fun doing it. I have a large window in my studio and I have found that if I put my still life right in front of the window, I get all this beautiful light shining through and back lighting my subject. I then placed a spotlight next to the still life as well to accentuate the flowers and water pitcher more. This was a fun painting. I will be posting a small study I did of these roses later.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Southwest Pottery with Carnations

Southwest Pottery and Carnations is a 10x8 painting done on linen canvas panel. I am proud of this painting. I think this is one of my better ones even though I don't get a lot of comments on it. I think that is because of the color??
